The Acura NSX is not long in coming.
Acura revealed on Monday that model year 2022 will be the last year for its hybrid supercar and that any 2022 model will be the NSX Type S Special Edition.
Production of the NSX Type S is limited to 350 units, with 300 of the lots destined for the United States. The car will make its public premiere on August 12 during Monterey Auto Week, following which Acura will begin accepting orders.
The introduction of the NSX Type S comes as no surprise, as Acura aims to introduce the Type S performance badge to all of its cars. The original NSX also had an S-type variation that was only available in Japan.
Acura has meticulously documented every component of the present NSX Type S, but expects more power, faster acceleration, and more accurate handling in the future. The front and rear dashboards are also distinctive.
We remind you that the NSX is powered by a centrally mounted 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 and a trio of electric motors with a combined output of 573 hp. In the NSX Type S, the extra power will come from the V-6, Acura confirmed. Earlier rumors suggest that the combined horsepower will increase to 650 horsepower.
The NSX was introduced in 2016 as a 2017 model, but it failed to spark the supercar world in the same way that the original did two decades ago. The United States is the world’s largest car market, with yearly sales in the hundreds of thousands.
The good news is that Acura has no plans to do without sports cars, according to brand boss Jon Ikeda.
Acura is a high performance brand, an enthusiastic company, and we will continue to move forward and actively explore what the next generation of sports cars should look like in the age of electrification. said he said in a press release.
