The next Lamborghini supercar will have a brand new V12

Last week, Lamborghini unveiled the definitive version of its Aventador, confirming that the car known as Ultimae will be the last to have a V-12 without power.

For the successor to the Aventador, which could already be seen in 2022, Lamborghini is relying on a V-12 in a plug-in hybrid configuration.

However, the V-12 won’t have the same 6.5 liters as the Aventador. In an interview with Autoblog after the debut of the Aventador Ultimae, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann stated, “It will be an entirely new design.”

For Lamborghini, a new V-12 is a huge thing. There were just two V-12s in the company. The first debuted in the first Lamborghini model, the 1960s’ 350 GT, and continued, albeit with updates, on the Murcielago. For the Aventador, a new V-12 was designed. In the Aventador Ultimae, it produces 769 horsepower, while in the Essenza SCV12 racing vehicle based on the Aventador, it produces 830 horsepower.

Winkelmann is keeping the specifications of the new V-12 under wraps, but told Autoblog that it shares nothing with the Aventador engine. The hybrid technology will also be unique, according to Winkelmann, who claims that nothing from the lightweight hybrid based on the Aventador Sian is shared. He claims there won’t even be a turbocharger.

Winkelmann also told Autoblog that Lamborghini could still bring future track-only cars to market with non-electrified V-12 engines, but that nothing has been determined yet.

As for the successor to the Aventador, Winkelmann only wants to confirm that it will have a carbon fiber construction, all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering and active aerodynamic technology.
